“Etched In Pavement” Art Installation
This installation reimagines my documentary film Etched in Pavement as a physical object — a sculptural stack of vintage CRT televisions looping fragments of the film. Presented as part of Michigan Central Station’s inaugural Art Clvb art fair and the Etched in Pavement photo book launch, the piece functions as both archive and artifact — a vessel for the people, places, and layered histories embedded within the work.
The structure is adorned with childhood photographs of the film’s lead figures, images captured over five years of filming, and textures and symbols rooted in Southwest Detroit. Viewers are invited to slow down — to read, watch, listen, and engage physically with the piece. At its center, a time capsule encasing a wheat-pasted boxing glove invites visitors to leave handwritten reflections — preserving the legacies they carry forward.
Materials include custom birch cabinetry, converted vintage CRT televisions, fluorescent acrylic, poured cement, vinyl, wheat-pasted photography, acrylic paint, and artist crayon.
